World Book Day 2022
World Book Day at Firs 2022
What do dinosaurs on the loose, book scenes in boxes, and book fairies leaving brand new books around the school all have in common?
The answer is World Book Day 2022 here at Firs. We've been leading with reading all academic year, so what better way to celebrate our growing reading culture?
Prior to WBD, Mrs Aktar our ace librarian set a challenge for pupils to recreate their favourite book scenes in dioramas (miniature models) contained in shoe boxes.
Alongside their scenes, pupils included facts, reviews, and all kinds of information regarding the books they'd read. There were so many brilliant entries, but winners (from across our phases) were announced in a special assembly. Here are the entries:
Mrs Lea, our fabulous Year 1 teacher, Skills and Rights leader made sure that teachers had all the resources necessary to make reading the focus of the day and many pupils and teachers dressed up in book-related costumes.
Mrs Lea was also responsible for bringing a dinosaur onto the Key Stage 1 playground - but don't worry - it was very friendly and a full risk assessment had been carried out prior.
It's not over yet. We have our Scholastic Book Fair, starting Monday 14th March and running to Friday 18 March. Don't forget that pupils can use their WBD tokens and there are books at affordable prices.
